A San Diego native, Lucas attended the University of St. Augustine's Doctor of Physical Therapy program, graduating in 2012 with high honors and receiving the Stanley Paris Award for Excellence in Manual Therapy. He has since been practicing in orthopaedic, sports, and manual physical therapy settings throughout southern CA while pursuing advanced education and specializations in manual therapy, human movement science, and clinical education. Lucas has completed two certifications in manual therapy, a residency program in orthopaedic physical therapy, a board certification as an Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS), and a 3-year post-doctoral fellowship program earning the credential of Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic & Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT). Lucas has a rich history of teaching and mentoring for the Manual Therapy Insitute's manual therapy and fellowship programs, and is an adjunct faculty member for the University of St. Augustine and guest lecturer for San Diego State University's DPT programs. He is passionate about clinical education and the advancement of the physical therapy profession, and for efforts in these areas he received the University of St. Augustine's Patricia King Alumni Award for Outstanding Alumnus in 2017. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles on expertise in orthopaedic physical therapy care and the integration of psycho-social factors into orthopaedic practice in journals such as JOSPT, Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Practice, and the Journal of Manual & Manipulative Therapy, and he has presented at national conferences for the APTA, AAOMPT, and internationally at the World Confederation of Physical Therapy. Lucas spends his free time with his fiance Katie and his two daughters, Emmalyn (8) and Avah (6), enjoying being outdoors, beach days, camping, Lego building, and all things arts and music.
